question about film festivals

do i have to be at them if i send a movie in and is there any web sites or magazines that tells about film festivals and stuff. Also how could i make money off festivals.

A common question on this board is people asking "How can I make money."

Do you people realize how hard it is to make money off of films? IT usually takes a few years of slugging it out, making only peanuts before you actually make anything. There are exceptions but you don't just make a movie and then VIOLA!! in pours the money.
Damn, are you people doing this for money? if you are, why not just become a media consultant, you make more money on the average and it takes less time to get there? WAKE UP...Money is hard to come by in this industry.

But no you usually don't have to be there at a festival and most festival's will give you about 500-1000 dollars and a trophy and send you on your merry way. That sounds like a lot but when you make a movie for 5-10 thousand it really doesn't add up.

So if you love this DO IT. but if fame and money are what you're after...ARGH! WRONG INDUSTRY!
